β 0.642 ETH Β· grows every time the potato is jacked
A slice of every jack goes straight to the Pot. The later in the season the jack happens, the bigger that slice β Harvest stage routes 28% of every sale to the jackpot vs 13% at Dormant. The pot compounds as the game gets more serious.
The Pot is locked the moment The Boil fires. Nobody can add to it after that β the jackpot is set, and the only fight is who's holding when the clock runs out.

The split is flat regardless of how long you held β tiers only affect your Souvenir rarity, not the payout. The seal always pays 85% to whoever is holding when The Boil fires.
π₯ One Potato, Always For Sale
There is exactly one Jackpotato NFT. It's always for sale. The current holder cannot refuse β if someone meets the minimum price, they take it. No blocking. That's the game.
π Price Can Only Go Up
The contract enforces a floor. Every sale must beat the previous price by the current stage minimum. Nobody can rug the price out from under you. Every holder paid more than the one before them.
π± Holding Is Fortification
The longer you hold, the more your potato sprouts β and each stage raises the floor anyone must pay to take it from you. Dormant: +20%. Sprouting: +30%. Harvest: +50%. Hold long enough and you become genuinely expensive to dislodge.
πΈ Getting Jacked = Guaranteed Profit
If you get jacked, you walk away with 70β85% of the sale price β always more than you paid. You also receive a Souvenir NFT immortalising your hold, with rarity based on how long you lasted and when.
Example Arc β How A Season Plays Out
Day 0. Alice buys the Jackpotato for 0.5 ETH. The price floor is now set β anyone who wants it must pay at least 20% more than she did. She doesn't pick a price. The contract picks it for her.
Day 5. The potato sprouts. Alice is now in Sprouting stage β the minimum anyone must pay to take it has jumped to +30% above her price. She's harder to buy out with every passing day.
Day 10. Harvest. Floor is now +50% above Alice's price. The Pot has been growing quietly this whole time from every prior jack in the season.
Day 12. Bob really wants the Jackpotato. He pays 4.5 ETH. Alice walks away with 3.15 ETH (70% of the sale at Harvest) β more than 6Γ what she paid β plus a Legendary Souvenir NFT.
Day 27. Bob held for 15 days without anyone jacking him. The Boil fires. Jacking stops immediately β Bob has won. 48 hours later he collects 85% of the Season Pot and the season closes.
The potato moves through three stages based on how long the current holder has held it. Each stage raises the minimum price someone must pay to jack it β and changes how the sale proceeds are split between the seller, the Pot, and the creator.

Sellers always make a profit β it's guaranteed by the math. At Dormant stage, the minimum jack price is +20% above what you paid, and you receive 85% of the sale β that's 85% Γ 120% = 102% of your entry price, every time. At Sprouting it's 80% Γ 130% = 104%. At Harvest it's 70% Γ 150% = 105%. No matter when you get jacked, you come out ahead.
π―οΈ The Boil
Every season ends with a The Boil. It can be triggered two ways: 15 consecutive days pass without anyone jacking the potato, or spectators collectively stake enough to force it early.
When The Boil fires, jacking stops immediately. No more buying. Whoever is holding the potato at that moment has won β they just have to wait 48 hours for the payout to be unlocked. The 48-hour window is purely a safety buffer before anyone can call the payout function.
After 48 hours, anyone can trigger the payout. The Pot pays out flat:
85%Final Holder
10%Season 2 Seed
5%Creator (1%βArchive)
The split is flat regardless of how long you held. Hold for 15 days and nobody jacks you β you win 85% of the Pot. That's the game.
β³ Timer Path
15 days pass without a jack. The holder proved they could outlast the market. The Boil fires automatically β jacking stops immediately and they've won. The 48-hour safety window opens before the payout can be called.
π Spectator Path
Spectators collectively stake β₯10% of the Pot and vote to seal early. Real skin in the game β their stake goes toward the Pot when they vote. Gives spectators genuine power to end a season they think is ripe.
π° The Boil Side Pool PROPOSED
When The Boil fires, a prediction market opens. Spectators bet on one question: who will be holding the potato when the Boil fires? Back a specific address if you think they'll still be holding when the season closes β or back NO if you think the season will end before anyone expects.
When the window closes, the losing pool distributes to the winning pool. A small cut goes to the Pot. The market becomes its own spectator sport β a show of collective faith in whoever ends up holding it last.

π‘ NO β Holder Survives

$187 staked
You don't need to hold the potato to have skin in the game. Spectators can force The Boil early by staking ETH β if the collective stake hits 10% of the Pot, jacking stops immediately and whoever is holding has won.
π³οΈ Vote to Seal
Stake ETH toward forcing The Boil. Once the collective stake from all spectators hits 10% of the current Pot, the 48-hour window fires automatically. Your stake goes to the Pot β you don't get it back, but you triggered the endgame.
Spectator stake vs. 10% threshold$42 / $125 needed
Your stake adds to the Pot regardless of whether the threshold is reached. If it tips the balance, The Boil fires immediately.
What is Jack the Potato?
Jack the Potato is a single-NFT perpetual-auction game on Base. One token exists. It's always for sale. The holder can't refuse β but they're guaranteed a profit every time they get jacked. The price can only ever go up.
The game plays out in seasons. Each season ends with The Boil β the moment jacking stops and whoever is holding the potato collects 85% of the season's Pot. Build your position, fortify your hold, and hope you're still standing at the bell.
Season 1 launched with a $1,000 Pot seed so the first jackpot is worth chasing from day one.
1% of every season's creator fee goes to the Internet Archive β because some of what made this possible belongs to the commons.
Can I lose money?
If someone jacks the potato from you, you always profit β the math guarantees it at every stage. And once The Boil fires, jacking stops entirely, so whoever holds it at that moment wins the jackpot. No last-minute moves. The only risk is opportunity cost: you hold, nobody jacks you, and the Pot turns out to be less than you'd have earned selling earlier.
What if nobody buys it from me?
Then you're in the best position in the game. The Pot keeps growing from every jack earlier in the season. If 15 days pass without anyone jacking you, The Boil fires β you've won. Jacking stops immediately. Spectators can also trigger The Boil early by staking a vote.
Why does the seller get less at Harvest?
Because more goes to the Pot β making the jackpot bigger. At Harvest you're selling at a 50% premium above what you paid, and you still guaranteed profit. The lower seller % at later stages is the mechanism that accelerates jackpot growth as the season matures.
What's a Souvenir?
A separate NFT minted to the outgoing holder every time the potato is jacked. Rarity is calculated on-chain from how long you held, the stage, and how much the buyer overpaid. Art is generated off-chain and pinned to IPFS. Souvenirs may carry perks in future seasons.
What happens to the Pot at season end?
85% flat to whoever holds when The Boil closes. 10% carries forward to seed Season 2's Pot. 5% creator fee β 1% of that goes to the Internet Archive.
